First off, I totally missed the MxMo "Come to Your Senses" challenge this month :-( Lots of things conspired, and I didn't get a chance to play. Long story short, I was planning on going completely silly and fun and basically was going to work out a free-standing jello shot version of the Blow Job shot. Semi-solid, layered, can't use your hands to take...it would have been vastly entertaining to chronicle in photos. Alas...
Also, I may or may not have recently mentioned that I give up on trying to name everything. If something comes along, awesome. If not, I will live ;-) This is victim number one of that decision.
I have been a little obsessed with watermelon this summer, and basil. I had brought in a bottle of Effen Cucumber vodka to play with (let me tell you something: I don't like vodka. At all. This is like pure cucumbers. Effen does a really nice job with their flavors--you may recall I've used their Black Cherry before, too). I also had recently decided I wanted to do something else with balsamic. I'm not sure where the combination came from, and it took some trial and error, but I was extremely pleased with the ultimate result. I love the savory and the floral drinks best, and this is a wonderful blend of sweet and savory.
Unnamed (deal with it):
Method: Muddle, Shake and Strain
Glassware: Large Cocktail
Garnish: Fresh cracked sea salt float
Muddle:
6 cubes Watermelon
3 leaves Basil
1 tsp Balsamic syrup
.5 oz Simple syrup
Add:
2 oz Effen Cucumber vodka
.5 oz Fresh lime juice
Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a large cocktail glass. Use a sea salt grinder to float cracked sea salt on the top. Remember with the salt that less is really more. Even a little too much can really destroy the balance of this beautiful drink.
